The Catawba Falls trail will close on May 2, 2022, and remain closed until spring of 2023. The popular Old Fort area trail will be closed for 9-12 months to ensure the safety of the public and construction crews building retaining walls, boardwalks, staircases, and overlooks. Blue Ridge Travelers' Fall Color Report - Week 4

Good news! Our weather has changed and the evening temperatures will "encourage" colors to pop. The ten day forecast calls for highs in the mid-70s with lows in the 50s.  Perfect conditions, for anything!

The image here was taken September 28th, as you approach the Eastern Continental Divide on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 344, ten miles south of Little Switzerland.  Our Appalachian cove forests are unique and lush with high copies.  Tulip Poplars, Sugar Maple, Red Maple, Yellow Birch, Beech, White Ash, Big Leaf Magnolia and many more varieties are beginning to show their fall complextions, with Oaks and Black Walnuts dropping seeds and changing shades.

Follow our Blue Ridge Traveler page on Facebook, to see recent photos of these and other tree varieties.  Remember, the professionals forecast this year's "leaf season" as an extended one.  So, any time between now and the first week in November is a perfect time to visit our unique region of the Blue Ridge!
