Update! Blue Ridge Travelers' Fall Color Report - Week 6

Update: October 17th

I was in good company Sunday afternoon, as these colorful mountains kept me and many others entertained.  My tour began in Little Switzerland, via the DiamondbackNC/Hwy. 226-A, then North on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Grandfather Mountain State Park is a short ride, from most locations in our region. This image doesn't do justice to the magnificent rainbow of colors decorating the "back side" of Grandfather.  High country colors peaked this weekend!  Colors will "keep" for several days.

Further south, on the Parkway towards Linville Falls, colors were coming on strong!  You still have time to see peak days between Linville Falls and Crabtree Falls.  I'll post another update Wednesday, October 19th!

Wow! What a difference this week. Cooler nights and sunny days produce strong colors! These trees surround the Linville River, a few yards away from the Linville Falls Picnic Area, on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

While the morning temperatures were in the low 40s, conditions were ideal for a trail walk or drive.  Today's trip took me to the Linville Falls Visitor Center and overlooks, then south passing Bear Den Overlook and the unusual rock formation at Table Rock.  This section, between the Bear Den Overlook and the Orchard at Altapass, includes thousands of protected, forested acres opening to stunning views of our Blue Ridge Mountains.  Hiking trails are at Linville Falls, the Chestoa Overlook and the Orchard at Altapass.
