We're on the "backside" of January and looking towards February 2021. Two subjects come to mind when we think of February. Of course, all 28 days provide opportunities to learn more about Black History Month. With COVID restrictions, consider spending time on the North Carolina Museum of History's website's 20th Annual African American Cultural Celebration. https://tinyurl.com/yyyntv4b
The next big event in February is Valentine's Day! Do you have plans? A mountain get-away lends itself to social-distancing and experiencing small towns, locally crafted take-out including spirits, awesome greenways, and hiking trails, or spend family time biking the beginner trails at Lake James State Park. Their website details COVID regulations. https://www.ncparks.gov/lake-james-state-park/home
During February, downtown Marion businesses are hosting a fun give-away option with their Love Is Local campaign. When you make a purchase at participating downtown businesses, pick up a "Love Is Local" card and with each purchase, you'll receive a sticker to add to your card. With the 4th purchase, add your name and telephone number to the back of the card, leave it with the business. On March 1st, a drawing will be held and three people will win gifts! More to come. Check out the Facebook page for participating businesses and other details. https://www.facebook.com/events/788956651704277/
When considering lodging options, ask the hotel/motel or property owner if they're offering a Valentine's Day special. You may be pleasantly surprised! Little Switzerland's Big Lynn Lodge has an offer including a surf and turf dinner.
