This celebration of an iconic Appalachian food brings a day of fun and food to the Blue Ridge Mountains. New this year is a food truck rodeo where a variety of vendors will offer their livermush-based dishes for sale and compete to be named this year’s “Livermush Master.”
Other popular attractions are back this year, including a hog-calling and pig-squealing contest and a kids zone. Enjoy musical performances by Ages Past, a North Carolina-based bluegrass band known for their “traditional with a twist” style and powerful sound.
What is livermush?
Livermush is a pork-based food associated with Western North Carolina cuisine. It’s prepared using pig liver, other pig parts, cornmeal and spices such as pepper and sage. Livermush is typically made in a large loaf and then sliced and fried. Some like it at breakfast with eggs, or made into a sandwich with plenty of yellow mustard.
