Today's trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway focused on the region between the Linville Falls Visitor Center and the Orchard at Altapass (Mileposts 316 to 328). As you can see, we have lots of green leaves remaining on the trees. Between last Friday and today, I did notice trees showing more color. In some places, viewing the same mountain from opposite angles reveals more color!
This week, there were Sycamore, Beech and a few maples with color. Dogwood and Tulip Poplar continue to brighten! While any time of year is a great time to be in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we may have an opportunity to peak around the second weekend in October. Typically, peak is the third weekend, for our higher elevations surrounding the Linville Falls to Little Switzerland to Crabtree Falls area. We shall see! Tune in next Friday!
