The Catawba Falls trail will close on May 2, 2022, and remain closed until spring of 2023. The popular Old Fort area trail will be closed for 9-12 months to ensure the safety of the public and construction crews building retaining walls, boardwalks, staircases, and overlooks. 1st Day Hikes - Make Your Own!

af1e6a4e-5b46-4d02-86ff-23ceed607146

There is no better way to start off a new year than with a hike!  Unfortunately, as with most things COVID-related, 2021 will not begin with a guided hike.  So, MAKE YOUR OWN! With over 67,000 acres of Pisgah National Forest surrounding our small towns, you'll find lots of trails to explore.

Click on the "Play" icon to see a list of area hiking and waterfall trails.  Beginners, consider Tom's Creek Falls.  This one is an easy, well maintained two-mile loop with benches along the way.  The trail follows Tom's Creek and opens to a handicap overlook.

Off the beaten path, literally, is a favorite that's often used.  Newberry Creek Trail is an easy to moderate trail, about 5 miles, meandering through the forest.  If you take it to the top, you'll be at the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This former U.S. Forest Service road is a joy to walk and easy to find.

Happy New Year!
