The Linville Mountains frame Lake James and the views are stunning. The lake's 6,812 acres of water are contained by 150 miles of shoreline. For over 100 years, the lake has provided the region with hydroelectric power and is managed by Duke Energy.
You'll find Lake James State Park, two marinas, several public boat access areas, and the Marion Lake Club; the only golf course on the lake. It's open to the public!
Lake James State Park includes two sections, the Catawba Side and the Paddy's Creek section. The park features 25 miles of trails, 15 of those are mountain bike trails in the Paddy's Creek area. The terrain around Lake James makes for an ideal introduction to mountain biking. The trails are easy to follow, climb and descend gently, and are generally not technical. Before heading out, check the state park's website for current conditions, open/closed status and more. https://www.ncparks.gov/lake-james-state-park/home
The park includes a swimming beach with kayak and canoes rentals, restrooms, and two covered picnic areas. There are small fees for amenities and rentals. Check the website.
